Are you an indoor climber who wants to try sport climbing? or a climber heading off on your first sport climbing trip? This course is for you.

This one day course is suitable for beginners or those transitioning from indoor to outdoor climbing. It includes technical skills, practical sessions, and safety advice throughout.

On this course you’ll learn about the sport climbing environment and how to stay safe and feel confident climbing routes.

The course will be held at a local sport crag and will involve climbing some routes at a grade people are comfortable at.

The course covers the following:

  • Sport crag etiquette and access

  • Kit and equipment including ropes, quick draws, clipsticks and belay devices.

  • Crag safety from awareness of other climbers, assessing rock and bolt quality in different environments

  • Use of guidebooks and grading system and selecting routes

  • Lead belaying

  • Lead climbing a route safely and efficiently including clipping bots and the rope in the quickdraw

  • Rethreading/cleaning an anchor including various different sorts of anchors

  • Simple problem solving
