Isle of Skye Scrambling

  • Enjoy superb scrambling on the UK’s finest ridge over two days.

  • Many of the best scrambling and climbing in the Cuillin are up to the ridge, or quite independent of it. Enjoy routes such as:

    Pinnacle Ridge

    Dubh Slabs

    Clach Glas - Blabheinn Traverse

    Ratio 1:1 or 1:2

  • There are 12 Munros on the Isle of Skye. It is possible to climb all of them over 4 to 5 days, or select the ones you have remaining.

  • The Inaccessible Pinnacle is the highest point of Sgurr Dearg and Skye’s most exhilarating summit. It is the only Munro which requires rock climbing skills including an abseil descent. Always an incredible day!

  • Introduction days to the Cuillin Ridge. These days are perfect for someone’s first trip to Skye for those who aspire to undertake the Cuillin Ridge in the future. With an understanding of what the full ridge entails and feedback on how to train for it will give a lot better chance of success.

  • On this day you are put through your paces whilst scrambling on Skye, given feedback on where you are at for a full traverse and helpful route finding tips.

Guided Scrambles and Classic Scottish Ridges

  • Classic ridge on Ben Nevis

    1:2 maximum ratio

  • Classic ridge in Glen Coe

    1:2 max ratio

  • Liathach, Beinn Alligin and Beinn Eighe.

    These can be achieved over 3 days or as stand alone days. There are a variety of different routes which can be taken from scrambling on Liathach at grade 2, to rock climbing routes on Beinn Eighe’s triple buttresses.

  • An esoteric scramble taking in the reputed most difficult to access mainland Munro tops, Meall Dearg.

Guided Rock Climbs

  • Climb the best low grade rock climbs in the UK*

    *as defined by Ken Wilson in his book Classic Rock

    Rebecca Coles has climbed all the North Wales Classic Rock routes and most of the others across the UK.

Sea Cliff Climbing

  • Days for this introduction involve going to some of the friendly sea cliffs in North Wales to experience sea cliff climbing and learn the necessary skills.

    Ratio 1:2

  • Multi-pitch sea cliff climbing at Gogarth. The focus of any days out could involve a guided experience or learning to be safe in this most serious of rock climbing environments.

  • Guided experience on the classic route A Dream of White Horses.

Rock Climbing Skills Courses

  • Typically a 2 to 5 day course, taking a climber from being an indoor climber to being able to lead trad routes.

    Skills covered include:

    Kit and equipment for trad climbing

    Selecting routes, using guide books and trad grades

    Being an efficient second

    Lead belaying

    Building belays

    Placing trad gear

    Climbing technique

    Trad climbing tactics

    Ratio 1:2

  • From experiencing multi-pitch climbing for the first time (1-2 days) to learning how to independently climb multi-pitch routes (2-5 days).

    Ratio 1:1 or 1:2

  • On this course we go through the many things that could go wrong climbing, and learn solutions to solve them. We begin with how to avoid problems, progress to escaping the system, ascending a rope and much more.

    Ratio 1:2

  • Typically one or two days to help indoor lead climbers feel competent climbing on sport routes. Skills covered include rethreading anchors, using guidebooks and avoiding hazards.

    Ratio up to 1:4

 

Guided Scrambling

  • Scramble Snowdonia’s finest grade 1 ridge with a local mountaineering instructor.

    Maximum 1:4 ratio

  • Scramble the Ogwen valley’s best grade 1 route.

    Maximum 1:4 ratio

  • Experienced harder scrambles in North Wales and experience best Grade 2 and 3 scrambles. Such as:

    Dolmen Ridge

    Cneifion Arete

    Colwyn y Person Arete

    Bilberry Terrace

Scrambling Skills Courses

  • Learnt the skills to tackle Grade 1 scrambles including how to use a rope for support on short sections and escape.

    Maximum 1:4 ratio

  • Learn how to use the rope effectively on grade 2 and 3 scrambles to allow you to venture into harder terrain.

    Ratio 1:2

  • Prepare in North Wales for guided ascents of peaks such as the Matterhorn and the Eiger and more.

    Get tips and advice from someone who has climbed these peaks, as well as many of the 4000m peaks in the Alps.

    Ratio 1:1 or 1:2

  • Learn the dark art of efficient ropework for the Alps and gain the skills to become an independent alpinist.

  • A day, or multiple days, focussing on aspects of the ML syllabus, such as navigation or ropework, to prepare you for your assessment. Days are bespoke to focus on your needs.

    For the best quality, refresher days are delivered by staff who regularly train and assess RCIs and are therefore current with the syllabus.
